European design in the Modernist and Bauhaus traditions
For more than a century Europe has been the origin of the most significant design trends. With its base in Europe, and its
origins in Germany, Krups and its products have been greatly affected by the evolution of design and have also played a
significant role in popularizing and bringing new designs to the general public. From its beginnings, Krups has designed and
produced products reflecting the trends and fashions of the age starting with Art Deco right through to the Post Modernism
of the last 30 years.
The Modernist and Bauhaus movements are arguably the most important design events of the last century and marked a
radical break from traditional design. More than any other design movement they continue to have an important impact on
design with principles that produce timeless and elegant solutions. Many of the most iconic objects or architecture that
would be generally recognized as "design" today originated
from this period. Objects such as the Marcel Breuer
Wassily chair, Eileen Gray's side table, and the Corbusier
Petit comfort sofa to name just a few.
This is also true for Krups products. While designing and
producing products in a wide variety of styles over the years, the most successful and readily identifiable "Krups" products
are those that have strong links to modernism. With this in mind, the commissions for two new series of Krups product were
given to leading European and German designers. The Krups design teams were provided with the latest in technology,
materials, and production techniques and were given precise performance levels for each product. The result? Tools that
deliver genuine performance and taste with modern designs deeply rooted in the design heritage of Krups.
