Measuring
cooking ingredients by weight, rather than
volume, has long been the
European way, whilst in U.S. kitchens, cup measures are still standard.
But with increasing health awareness, and the fashion for home cooking on a high, more & more consumers are turning to kitchen scales to ensure better portion control.
Salter's own studies recently revealed that 2 standard US cups of flour could vary in content by as much as 73%, depending on the settling of the flour.
Potentially that's a lot of waste..a lot of extra calories and a recipie that just didn't quite work!
Weighing food gets right around this problem, and at the Chicago Housewares Fair, Salter went one better by featuring a scale that shows the nutritional values of over 900 foods as they are weighed, including carbohydrate, sodium, calories & fat.
This concentration on products to assist better lifestyles has also been reflected in the company's new "Living with Salter" marketing image, and the launch of their new consumer website
