When it comes to applying killer grill marks, nothing beats a cast iron grate. How to Use: Lay this Tuscan grill on top of your conventional chrome, stainless steel, or porcelainized enamel grate and preheat it for ten minutes. Brush with oil and arrange the food on top. The Tuscan grill gives you tack sharp, well-defined grill marks, while minimizing the risk of sticking. That's what they use at BBQ University with Steven Raichlen to get picture-perfect grill marks.
For fireplace grilling, screw the four round metal legs into holes in the corners of the grate. Position the grill over a bed of glowing embers in your fireplace (alternatively, place in fireplace and shovel embers under the grill). Heat, brush, and oil the grate then place steaks, chops, chicken breasts, seafood, and veggies on top. Turns your fireplace into a grill!
How to Clean: Like all cast iron, the Tuscan grill works best when seasoned before using. Wash it with soap and water and blot dry with paper towels. Brush it on all sides with melted vegetable shortening, place on a baking sheet, and bake it for one hour in a 350-degree oven. Preheat well before using, then brush with a stiff wire brush, such as the Monster Grill Brush, and oil the grate (using a folded paper towel dipped in oil). When finished grilling, brush clean with a stiff wire brush, then oil again. The Tuscan grill just gets better with each use ... the more you use it, the more resistant it becomes to rusting or sticking.
