The Largest Chimney Starter on the Market!!! Put away the lighter fluid forever. Our Best of Barbecue Ultimate Chimney Starter is the largest one on the market, holding a full 425 cubic inches of charcoal (7 pounds) enough to give you at least one hour of direct or indirect grilling. Ideal for grill jockeys who never seem to have quite enough coals. The square shape makes it easy to pour the blazing embers where you want them.
How to Use:
1. Fill the upper section of our Best of Barbecue Chimney Starter with charcoal ideally, natural lump charcoal.
2. Place 2 loosely crumpled sheets of newspaper in the bottom section. (Alternatively, place a paraffin fire starter in the bottom on the grate.)
3. Place the chimney on the bottom grate (the grate under the cooking grate) of your grill. You can also light the chimney on a stone or concrete surface or on bare ground. Never light a chimney starter on a wooden deck or grass.
4. Light the newspaper or paraffin fire starter with a match or lighter. After a few minutes, you'll see smoke. After a few minutes more, if you hold your hand a few inches above the chimney, you'll feel heat. The newspaper may seem to have burned out, but the charcoal is in the process of igniting. If you don't feel heat after 4 or 5 minutes, place 2 more sheets of crumpled newspaper in the bottom of the chimney and try it again. Note: 2 sheets of loosely crumpled newspaper will do it don't use more, or the coals won't light.
5. After 15 to 20 minutes, the charcoal should be lit and glowing red. The unique vertical shape of the chimney funnels the fire upwards, lighting the coals quickly and uniformly. You're now ready to place the lit charcoal in the grill. Using our Best of Barbecue Leather Grill Glove or other heatproof glove, lift the chimney by handle with one hand, guiding it with the metal loop. The sharp corners direct the coals where you need them.
